Computer Engineer doing software engineering

Dexter Fernandez

I'm a computer engineer, and software is the work I do: workflow automation, data collection tools, AI features, websites, and mobile and desktop apps. My engineering background means I'm comfortable when a project has to talk to a database, a camera or other hardware. Tell me what you need and I'll tell you how I'd build it.

Services

What I can build for you

Workflow automation

Scheduled n8n workflows that pull data from an API or a website and send it to Google Sheets or a database, with health checks so bad results don't get saved.

Data collection tools

Scrapers and pipelines that collect, filter, score and export data, like my Meta ads research tool below.

AI features

OpenAI-powered recommendations or classification added to a web app or a workflow.

Websites and web apps

Responsive sites and web apps, deployed to Vercel.

Mobile app MVPs

Flutter apps for Android and iOS, including QR scanning and camera features, built as a first version you can test.

Desktop and database systems

Windows apps in Visual Basic or C# connected to Oracle, MySQL or PostgreSQL.

Things I've built

EmoSense

Undergraduate thesis
with Zeus Karl Pascual
Best Research

Machine vision-assisted facial emotion recognition that helps guidance associates understand student emotional stability during assessment. A student answers a 25-item yes/no questionnaire while a camera reads their facial expressions. The system tallies the emotions across the session, sends the results to the OpenAI API, and shows counseling recommendations on a web portal.

I came up with the idea and wrote the system's code, shaped by our adviser's suggestions. My co-researcher Zeus did more of the written paper.

  • 4.54group mean, Outstanding (ISO/IEC 25010)
  • < 150 msper emotion classification
  • OpenAIAPI writes the counseling recommendations
USB camera → Raspberry Pi 4B (OpenCV + TensorFlow Lite) → PHP / MySQL → OpenAI API → web portal
GPIO button starts and stops a session

Analysis Center Booking System

Internship team project
Continental Autonomous Mobility

An internal test booking system built from scratch by a small team of engineers. It has custom GUIs, a calendar grid, and a module that manages files on the company FTP server. I handled the design, the back end and the database.

My part:

  • Login and sign-up forms.
  • The Annual Calendar module.
  • The attachment manager that copies files to the FTP server.
  • Equipment Registration with add, edit and delete against Oracle, written in SQL.
  • Helped move the backend from MS Access to Oracle Database.
  • Visual Basic
  • C#
  • SQL
  • Oracle DB
  • MS Access
  • .NET
  • Visual Studio

Mobile Inventory System

Android and iOS
MVP / Prototype

A cross-platform MVP prototype that shows how equipment tracking could work from a phone. The app scans a QR code holding an equipment serial number, takes photos of the equipment, and files them in folders by serial number.

I built the core QR scanning module with asynchronous state management and camera lifecycle handling, so the scanner releases hardware properly and doesn't leak memory.

RFID Gesture Photobooth

Seminar subject project
Graduating year

My seminar subject asked for a system that wasn't pure software, so I put hardware in front of the code. A guest taps an RFID card, and a green LED tells them the booth is live. They flash a peace sign, a 3-2-1 countdown runs, and the booth takes four photos and places them into a collage template.

RFID tap → Arduino + MFRC522 → serial PHOTOMODE_ON → Python → MediaPipe peace-sign detection → 4 photos → OpenCV collage
Python sends PHOTOMODE_OFF back and the red LED returns to idle

The Arduino and Python talk both ways over serial. Python scales the photos into a 1920×1080 template and saves each collage with a timestamp. The booth was presented during our graduating days.

Amara Celestina Event Portal

Live website

A custom web app for an upcoming 2027 milestone event. I designed the pages, built the front end, and deployed it to Vercel.

Automation

Workflows I run on my own machine

AdsRadar

Meta ads research
Python and n8n
MVP

A research tool that tracks advertisers in the Meta Ads Library across different countries. It collects the ads, checks each advertiser's store and reviews, and sorts brands by topic with a keyword check that filters out the irrelevant ones. Each brand gets a score, and the top 50 go to a Google Sheet for review. It collects through both the Meta Ads Library API and a web scraper, and it has its own small REST API that n8n calls to start a run. The code also has an optional LLM step that I haven't turned on.

An n8n workflow runs it every Monday at 03:00. It starts the run through the tool's API, checks back every 3 minutes, and saves results only when the run reports a healthy status. Rows are matched by page name, so a repeat run updates a row instead of duplicating it, and brands I've already marked stay as I set them.

Shopify Price Tracker

Store scraper
n8n workflow
MVP

Every 6 hours the workflow reads a list of stores from a PostgreSQL table and loops through them one at a time. For each store it marks the row as scraping, pulls the public product list, then saves two things: a price snapshot per product, and the product record itself, which updates in place when it already exists. The store is then marked successful with the time it was scraped. n8n runs on my own computer, and the data lives in a PostgreSQL database.

every 6 h → stores table → loop → status SCRAPING → products.json
→ price snapshots + product upsert → status SUCCESS, last_scraped_at

  • PostgreSQL
  • REST upsert

Internship

Full-Stack Developer Intern

Continental Autonomous Mobility
Analysis Center · 300 hours

I joined a team building an internal booking system from scratch. I handled the design, the back end and the database, from the first screens to the Oracle queries behind equipment registration.

We began in C#. In January we switched to Visual Basic because my department head worked in it, so I learned the new language and carried the project through to the end of the internship. I practiced SQL on Access first, then moved to Oracle.

The switch taught me to work in the language the team needs and not the one I prefer.
